Fondant (French for 'melting') is one of several kinds of icing-like ingredients used to decorate or sculpt pastries. As a cake covering, it provides a wonderfully smooth canvas for decorating while sealing in the freshness of the cake.

Poured fondant is a cream confection used as a filling or coating for cakes, pastries, candies and sweets. It can be either stirred or beaten until an opaque mass of creamy consistency.
